The “Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale” (National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics – OGS) is a public research institution under the remit of Italy’s Ministry of Education, University and Research, which operates internationally in the fields of Earth and Sea Sciences, Oceanography, Geophysics and Seismology, to contribute to the protection and enhancement of natural and environmental resources, to assess and prevent geological, environmental and climatic risks and to disseminate scientific knowledge and culture.
Today, the OGS has four offices in Friuli Venezia Giulia and one in Sicily, at Panarea, and is divided into four sections of scientific and technological research: Oceanography; Geophysics; Seismological Research Centre; Infrastructure.
